Well, hey there, craft enthusiasts, and welcome to the latest installment in our challenge series based on the new book by the King of Crafting, Tim Holtz!
Seven of us on the Curiosity Crew spent several fabulous days at the Craft and Hobby Association annual conference this past week, and had an absolute blast! You might have seen some posts on our various social media pages of some of the cool stuff we saw, wonderful people we spent time with, and awesome techniques we learned. I was fortunate enough to assist in Tim’s “Evolution of Distress” class, and got a close up view of the gorgeous new Distress Ink color, Cracked Pistachio. Did you know that Ranger will be releasing a new color of Distress every month this year, and that the new color will be available in ALL formats (ink pad, stain, spray, paint AND marker) simultaneously?
2015 is going to be AWESOME!
Please be aware, being out of town for a week garbled my brain and my schedule, and as a result we just finished choosing the winners for Challenge 18. In the next few days, I’ll post the results, and then shortly thereafter we’ll also announce the winners of Challenge 19. I apologize for the delay, but we want to make sure we take enough time to admire every entry!
Right now, let’s talk about this new challenge, Distress Watercoloring, Part 2. The Curiosity Crew found this technique to be a great way to add visual depth to our creations, and we think you’re going to love the effect in your art, too! Open up your copy of A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol.3 to page 40 for the lowdown.
Check This Out!
Our overarching intention with the CC3C— besides having fun making art, of course!— is to help promote Tim Holtz’s book and products. This challenge is intended specifically for those who’ve invested in their own copy of A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 3. We don’t post instructions to the techniques for this reason. If you don’t have a copy, you can order one directly from Tim, who will be glad to autograph it for you!
We realize, of course, that many of the technique’s instructions are available online, and there’s no way for us to truly know if our participants have their own copy of the book. The most we can do is invoke the Honor System, and ask each participant to please respect this rule.
Our other goal with these challenges is to promote our two sponsors, Inspiration Emporium and The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Their generous support is so appreciated! To that end, entries that promote other businesses will not be eligible to win the sponsor prize OR the Curiosity Crew’s Choice.
If you have any questions about the challenge in general, check out the CC3C F.A.Q. here.
Please, please be sure to read and heed the rules listed in the Inlinkz link-up at the end of this post before you submit your piece. too. We don’t have a lot of rules, but those we do have are important, and entrants that don’t follow them will be disqualified.
Win a Box of Awesome from Tim and Mario!
As always, we’ll select a “Curiosity Crew’s Choice” winner who will receive an awesome assortment Tim’s products, courtesy of Tim himself and Mario Rossi, his spectacular Logistics Director and everyone’s favorite “Behind the Scenes” social media superstar (follow Mario on Instagram for sneak peeks of Tim’s latest projects)! To be eligible to win, you must visit each of our team members’ blogs and leave a comment there. You can easily access their blogs by clicking on their project photos (your comment on this post counts as your comment on my blog).
The Funkie Junkie Boutique is back to sponsor Challenge 20, and lovely owner Linda Coughlin has a fabulous $25 shopping spree to one very lucky CC3Cer! (I finally got to meet Ms. Coughlin last week, and she is absolutely delightful. Further evidence that this community is just chock full of wonderful people.) For a chance to win that shopping spree, link your project here and link to The Funkie Junkie Boutique in your blog post!
Here’s the Crew’s take on this challenge:
Yvonne Blair is taking a break this time, but do be sure to check out her blog– Yvonne has her own stamp line debuting from Impression Obsession, and we couldn’t be more proud of our girl!
Let’s see you rock the Distress Watercoloring! This challenge is open through Friday, January 30. Have fun!
